Whether you are building a new home or remodeling the bathroom in an existing home, the floor covering is one thing for which you will consider different options. Tile floors can be costly but the water-resistant and durable surfaces are a great investment.
Tile floors do not have to be boring; you can consider many ideas to give them some personality. Many design ideas can even be combined to create distinct patterns.
Colors
Choose tile in colors that will complement your bathroom decor. Use several colors to create a random mosaic pattern or choose tiles with textured patterns.
A neutral color tile or several neutral colors will allow you to change your color schemes or decorative accents more easily. Choosing several tile colors will allow you to change the bathroom decor to several colors.
You may alternate colors into patterns or designs or use the colors to create mosaics of a flower or other decorative element. One common design is to tile the perimeter of the room in one color and use a single or several other colors inside the perimeter.
Dimensions
The shape and size of the tiles will help you decide how you want to tile the floor. Tiles come in different shapes, including hexagonal, octagonal and square. You also can choose tiles in different sizes.
A great idea includes using tiles of different sizes and shapes that you can fit together to cover the entire floor surface. Another idea involves creating rows of tiles and varying the sizes or shapes of tiles in each row.
You may even create a perimeter of one size tile and use smaller or larger tiles inside the perimeter; or perimeters and middles of different shapes.
Alignment
Instead of aligning the tiles side by side, you could place the tiles in a staggered pattern, such as a brick pattern. Alternating the colors of the tiles in this pattern is another idea.
Another idea involves staggering one row, aligning two or more rows, and then staggering the next row and continuing the pattern across the floor.
