How to Epoxy Coating on Your Garage Floor

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

If you are wondering how to protect your concrete floor and help it last for years then applying an epoxy coating on your garage floor is a great idea. The benefits of applying a coating far outweigh the negative aspects of not applying any protective coating at all. An epoxy is a long lasting protective finish that resists practically anything you throw on it including grease, oil and chemicals found in your garage.

If you are planning to perform this task yourself, there are plenty of tools and supplies that you will need to get the job done. Some of the supplies you will need include a good stiff bristled broom, a similar scrub brush, bleach cleaner, concrete patching compound, garden hose or pressure washer, a good stiff bristled paintbrush, long handled nylon rollers and of course a good epoxy coating for a garage floor.

The most important step in applying epoxy coating on a garage floor is the preparation itself. If the floor is not cleaned properly then the epoxy coating on the garage floor will not stick and you will have to re-do the job from scratch. Sweep your floor with a good stiff bristled broom, this will remove all the loose dirt, dust and gravel from the floor. Use your bleach cleaner to soak on any stains on the floor. After you have let it soak in for a few minutes, use your stiff bristled brush and scrub the stains, you may have to do this a few times to get the stains off.

Use your garden hose or pressure washer to rinse the floor as thoroughly as possible. You will then have to let the floor dry before continuing on to the next step. Use a fan or leave the garage door open overnight to help speed up the drying time. Any cracks and damage to the floor need to be patched with a concrete repair compound. Once the repairs are dry, you will be able to apply the epoxy. Follow the directions on the container of the epoxy. Failure to do so may result in the product not working the way it should.

The Benefits Of Home Water Purification

Monday, May 26th, 2008

In the late 1960s, one American family visited some colleges in New England. During their trip, they stayed at a ski resort in Vermont. The water piped into main water line for that facility came from a natural spring. The quality of that water did not go unnoticed by the family’s breadwinner. He had heaps of praise for the shower in that Vermont motel room. He did not realize that the day was coming when many homeowners would enjoy the pleasures that he had enjoyed. Those homeowners would purchase one of the home water purification systems.

Once a homeowner has invested in home water purification, then each shower that he or she takes reproduces the feeling felt by those who have showered in spring water. In addition, the decision to install a system for purification allows a homeowner to provide all of his or her family members with good tasting water.

Moreover, each of the systems can reduce the degree to which residents in a home must deal with the effect of harsh chemicals in the tap water. City water often contains a good deal of chlorine. Over time, exposure to chlorine can dry the skin. When a system for home water purification removes that chlorine, then residents can’t fail to notice that they have healthier skin and hair.

When a homeowner chooses to provide his or her family with purified water, then that homeowner needs to learn a few new words. Some systems for the purification of water in a home have what is called a “bactericidal system.” That means that the system has the ability to do away with any microorganisms that might have made their way into the water.

Other systems have received the designation “bacteriostatic system.” Such a system lacks the ability to remove from water going into the home all of the microorganisms in that water. A bacteriostatic system simply slows the rate at which those organisms can grow in the water, as it is piped into the home.

A homeowner should be concerned about four different types of water contaminants-biological, heavy metals, organic compounds and inorganic compounds. A good home water purification system has the ability to take-out all of those contaminants. Above, the reader was reminded about the extent to which chlorine in water can damage the skin.

Yet no homeowner should sleep soundly if he or she has failed to study home water purification. The residents in a home deserve more than just chlorine-free water. Toxin-filled water puts toxins in the air, whenever residents in the home take a shower. A system such as this can remove those toxins.

None of these systems can serve as a perfect replacement for spring water. The performance of any such system could diminish over time. Still, the vast number of contaminants in the water that enters most homes underlines the value of an in-home system for the purification of water.

The availability of a purification system has the potential to put clean, pure and great tasting water in the drinking glass of everyone who resides in a home. Those residents can benefit from the advantages offered by a home water purification system. They can drink water that has passed through carbon filters with ion exchange and micron filtration.

The homeowner who has paid for that system can know that he or she is insuring delivery of safe water to each tap in the home.

How Safe is Aluminum Wire?

Monday, May 26th, 2008

Based on the assumption that all the work is done correctly, aluminum wire is still approved for use in homes if install properly. This means the wiring has to be crimped as well as have a pigtail. However, if you are concerned about safety, you will want to avoid aluminum wire. Yes, aluminum wire is cheaper than other wiring, but in the end, if the result of faulty wiring causes a fire or needs repair, you end up spending more money. In the opinion of a homeowner, they will want to have top quality in their home and that includes the wiring.

The aluminum wire connectors can corrode and need repair. If this happens, you are better off replacing the wiring with Romex or copper. Therefore, using the right wire the first time might be a little more expensive, but in the end, it is cheaper and easier to use in areas that are close to insulation, wood joists and studs. The Romex is plastic coated and does not require room for the heat to dissipate. Some insurance companies may help you decide against aluminum wires as well. Some companies will not insure a home with this type of wiring.

Some things that can occur when using aluminum wires is corrosion or deterioration which can cause lights to flicker on and off, breakers to overheat, as well as the outlets. In all cases, if you are thinking about having aluminum wiring in your home, find someone to install it correctly and show you some signs to look for throughout the time you are in the home. You will need to check for corrosion, loose connections, and overheating breakers and outlets. To avoid all the hassles, you might be better off with a different type of wiring to protect your home and family.

Driving While Intoxicated

Monday, May 5th, 2008

As we know, Driving While Intoxicated (DWI), is a serious crime in the United States. Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) is the title of classification used to identify a drunk driving within the overall category known as Driving Under the Influence (DUI). Operating Under the Influence (OUI) and Operating a Motor Vehicle Intoxicated (OMVI) are the two other titles that fall within the DUI category. The laws concerning this offense vary from state to state, but in all cases, it is considered a major traffic violation in which the penalties will not be slight. Many people think of alcohol as the only problem in this category of law, but drugs can play a large role as well. Most drug DWI cases occur because the driver wants to stay awake to drive, but the drugs can cloud judgment as well, putting others and yourself at risk.

In most states, the severity of punishment will be partially determined by whether or not this is the offender’s first offense, and if there were any injures to other people. First time offenders are treated simply as a misdemeanor, only if no one was injured. If the behavior continues, however, the third offense is automatically considered as a felony. DWI law can be complex when other parties are involved. If another person is injured while driving under the influence, the offender has the possibility of facing heavy fines, jail time, community service, mandatory attendance of driver’s education classes or drunk driving classes, and in pretty much all cases, a suspension of his/her driver’s license. Such cases could be considered a felony, manslaughter, murder, or even assault with a deadly weapon, all of which are punishable with jail time.

Although these cases seem straightforward, if an accident is caused under the influence, the case could also be considered a civil suit, a criminal suit, or in a situation in which minor children were injured, reckless endangerment and failure to protect a minor. Heavy fines accompany all of these cases, which could then lead to even more jail time if bankruptcy needs to be declared. These results may seem cruel, but because of the number of offenses over the years, and the dramatic effect that DWIs can have on people, most states have established harsh punishments for DWI crimes.

In a situation like this you need a tough, experienced lawyer to help you fight for your rights. If you stay at Dallas, you can use DWI lawyer like the Law Offices of Richard C. McConathy, located in Irving, Texas. They have more than 33 years combined trial experience, concentrating on helping individuals involved in DWI in Dallas, called as DWI Dallas, Tarrant, Denton, Collin, Parker and all other surrounding counties in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The State of Texas has a team of attorneys who are preparing a case against you. In order to preserve your rights and obtain the best result, you need your own skilled team of lawyers who understand the prosecution’s strategies and the police officers special DWI training. By use the Dallas DWI Lawyer, you can get more advantages to solve your DWI problem. Dallas DWI is the most popular situation right now. Just be carefully.

While it is never wise to drunk drive, each state does have their own specific standards that you should be fully aware of before getting behind the wheel of a car if you have even had one drink. It is your responsibility as a driver to know the laws pertaining to the road, especially when impairment may be involved.
