Get Ready To Go: Preparing For College The Easy Way
Spring will be here before we know it. With spring comes the arrival of flowers, sunny days, and high school graduation. It’s time to face the fact that your little one is all grown up and will be attending college. As nervous as you are, think of your child thrown into a world of lecture halls, credit cards, and self sufficiency. It’s scary, it’s exciting, and with some careful planning and smart purchases, it can be fun!
Living in a dorm, especially if you come from a smaller household, can really turn your life upside down. Waiting for a bathroom, eating cafeteria food and living with a stranger can be a huge shock to your system. Why not provide a comfortable, familiar space for your child? A cozy, relaxing bed is crucial. If your child isn’t getting adequate sleep, their performance at school is sure to suffer. Trendy bedding and a snug bed will prevent that in advance.
Dorm rooms are notorious for being teeny and often offer little to no storage. Purchasing a chest of drawers or an armoire is a great way to provide much needed space to keep clothes, books, and precious keepsakes from home. If even those are too large, stackable units save even more space.
Now, where to sit! Once your teen starts to make new friends, having someone to gather is important. A futon is a great place to sit and sleep, saving space and offering seating. An ottoman provides your child with a place to rest achy feet and extra seating for guests. If space isn’t an issue and you’re just looking to accessorize, how about purchasing a funky chair with a modern design and trendy color. Let this be all about your child’s personal expression.
Even though it’s a difficult time for both of you, do what you can to make this transition as effortless as possible. By purchasing some much-needed and, without doubt, much-appreciated dorm furniture, your child will flourish in their new environment and live their first year away from home as comfortable as they would were they still under your roof.
